Young Curators

SESSION DATES:

TBA

Member’s Preview:  May 14, 2020  5:00-7:00 pm

The University of Maine Museum of Art is pleased to offer the Young Curators program for youth ages 11-17. In this program, students get a behind the scenes look at the inner workings of an art museum. The Young Curators meet one afternoon a week during the spring. Participants select art work from UMMA’s permanent collection for the summer exhibitions. Young Curators develop a theme for their show, research and write didactic materials for Museum patrons and present their work at the Member’s Preview opening reception. Participants also meet with all members of the staff to learn about museum careers. Applications for the Spring 2019 are open, and the form can be found online here.

Application deadline:  TBD

There is no cost to join the Young Curators but participants are selected through an application process as space is limited.   The application requires a short essay and teacher recommendation.

To learn more about Young Curators or to request an application, or brochure contact UMMA Senior Museum Educator Kat Johnson at 581.3360 or email at kat.johnson@maine.edu.
