Young Curators Program – 2024

The Zillman Art Museum (ZAM) is pleased to offer the Young Curators program to high school students. In this program, students get a behind the scene look at the inner workings of an art museum. The Young Curators will meet 8 times over the Spring in preparation for a May exhibit. As a group, the Young Curators collaborate and develop a theme for their exhibition which includes researching the artwork and writing the didactic materials for the exhibition. At the Member’s Preview Reception, students will present their exhibition to the museum members and guests. Participants will work closely with all of the ZAM staff to learn about art, exhibitions, and museum careers.

Participants will be selected through an application process which includes a short letter of interest that addresses the applicant’s interest in art and learning about museums. Also, please submit a recommendation from one teacher. Selections will be based on strengths, interests, and propensity to work as a team with others. Interviews will be held at staff’s discretion. There is no fee, but students must commit to meeting for all of the session dates as well as the Member Reception, May 16, 2024. Please look at your schedule before applying – the Member Reception may conflict with Senior activities.

The applications will be available as of Jan. 15, 2024 and the deadline will be Feb. 15th.

Young Curators will meet from 3pm to 4:30pm on Thursdays.

Dates will include: March 14 & 28, April 11 & 25, and May 2, 9, & 16.
